We try to practice friendship that feels more like family.

Friendships rooted in Jesus change the world.

WHO WE ARE

The Center Community values intentional friendships that are rooted in the person and way of Jesus—the one at the center of everything. Friendships rooted in Jesus show how the world has been changed by Jesus. We are a close community but we are not a closed community.

All are welcome to participate in our meetings, activities, and events.

Our day-to-day life is fueled by a core community who have committed to following a Way of Life together. Throughout history, Christian communities have been shaped by a common Rule or Way as a public testament of their commitment to Christ and to one another. We renew these commitments every year.

Those who commit to the Way of Life are eligible to serve on the Core Team and as House Church facilitators.

The mission of The Center Community is to create family-like community wherever we go. Our homes and our lives are open to others. We don’t simply ‘go’ to church. We are a church community called together by Jesus everyday.

Daily, we’re training and equipping each another toward deeper commitments to the way of Jesus within our families and households. If things are good at home, they’re more likely to be good everywhere else. We’re learning to be intentional with the little things like taking every thought (and every load of laundry!) captive to Christ. By being intentional, we discover together how our daily chores and routines can become spiritual practices. Some of our households host house churches where we worship together on Sundays and at other times during the week. Once a month, the whole community gathers for worship and for various events, learning, and service opportunities.

As a community, we steward the mission of The Center for Faith & Leadership and relationships with area college students, young adults and entrepreneurs. The Center for Faith & Leadership acts as a resource for, and promotes unity within the Christian community while maintaining status as a campus ministry organization at the University of Mary Washington. Any student in good standing with the university can join the campus organization. Those wishing to serve as Interns and leaders at The Center agree to standards outlined in a separate leadership covenant.

The Center for Faith & Leadership at 1514 College Avenue in Fredericksburg is owned by the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). The BGAV provides a stipend to support a director of the campus ministry organization. The Center Community operates as an autonomous community and house church network that is voluntarily affiliated with the BGAV and The Ecclesia Network

In addition to house churches, The Community facilitates various missional experiments and fresh expressions of church for those looking for an authentic family-like community no matter where they are on their journey.
